LUMA in Queenstownby Steamer Wharf
LUMA
Queenstown is almost upon us and we can’t wait to see those lights shining
across the bay from Steamer Wharf! For
four nights over Queen’s Birthday weekend the Queenstown gardens will be
transformed with illuminated art, light sculptures and performance.
The
LUMA Southern Light Project is a unique experience that has grown both in popularity
and scale since its first inception in 2015. Locals love it, after all it’s family friendly, community minded and its
free! Visitors to Queenstown too are blown away by this unexpected and
ingenious event involving both local and international artists, which is why it
has established itself as one of Queenstown’s key events of the year.
This
year LUMA introduces a new installation piece, Gnome Alley. Thirty gnomes are gathering from far and wide from the studios
of renowned New Zealand artists such as Dick Frizzell, and Tony Cribb as well
as locals Graham Brinsley, Tony O’keefe and Jenny Merhtens to name just a few.
One of our own team at Steamer Wharf, marketing manager and artist Fiona
Garlick has also donated her time and creativity to make a unique artwork that
will be auctioned to raise funds for emerging LUMA light artists. Look out for
the Gnomish Queen of Hearts!
So wrap up for your wander round the gardens then head down to Steamer Wharf to warm up again with a hot toddy or a delicious meal in one of our bars and restaurants. Our own globe installation, installed for the first LUMA will be glowing with pride at how far this amazing light show has come!
