Steamer Wharf Hospo Raceby Steamer Wharf
The Hospo Race is a stalwart of Queenstown’s Winter Festival, being a fun and hilarious obstacle course where the local hospitality talent gets out there and competes to be best in the business. The business of lugging suitcases over obstacles, and running through tyres bearing cocktails on trays that is. Or making beds at top speed and with hotel precision, or not as it turns out! On the day it seems there were no holds barred when it came to bending the rules of engagement, some sloppy bed making indeed and it’s a wonder there were no serious injuries in the four legged race!
The course was right on our doorstep on Earnslaw Park, so Steamer Wharf and our key businesses, the restaurants and bars, could get right in there and get involved! And get involved they did, putting up some amazingly generous prizes and of course entering their teams into the crazy competition.
The team from Little Blackwood put up a valiant effort but didn’t make it into the finals, whilst Finz Seafood & Grill got into the finals but had to bow out to the winners from Hotel St Moritz and Sky City. What a fantastic way to kick off Queenstown’s Winter Festival, and there’s only more fun to come! Don’t forget to check out the Live Ice Carving at Steamer Wharf tomorrow.
